Did you know that the April's Fools day prank of throwing a pie at someone’s face originates from the French revolution? A baker named Robert Tartallacrème allegedly did not have a weapon, so he attacked the King’s army with a freshly baked pie. Why the tradition is now culturally associated with April 1 is unknown, but some have suggested that it is because Robert died on March 31, so was not even able to participate in the pranking festivities! :(
The very first incidents of April's Fools day pranks were in the late Neolithic. To celebrate the return of spring, cavepeople would hang hollow mammoth heads full of water over their neighbours’ cave entrances. This was known as a “woolly mammoth ambush”, and these festivities are one of the main factors for the overhunting and extinction of woolly mammoths.
