Alright darfriends, darflings, and darfolk, the TBGs Christmas Tree is coming soon, and last year wasteof got a chance to participate, so it's only fair if Darflen gets to participate in this one. (Maybe soktdeer will get its turn in 2025 if it still exists by then.)

Last year's tree was also cramped, so that's why I'm putting this up early so we have space to work with. Comment your suggestions for the tree below, maybe we'll have to vote on them if they take too much space, but guaranteed there'll be contributions from here.

There's not a lot of room left so I'm stopping this here. Hopefully nobody missed their chance to add to the tree.

The original idea for this was not actually the Barriering, but about two brothers who share the last name Barry. One of them formed a town named Barrytown, and the other, after hearing about this, sets up a nearby town named Barriertown.

Barriertown, Maryland is a town in thr US with a population of ~150. Its residents have a yearly tradition known as "The Barriering" where they place random obstacles, whether physical or otherwise, in strategic places to annoy each other. Some interesting obstacles are enumerated here. In 1983, Harry Donalds stood knocking outside people's houses and engaged in "pointless conversation" with them. One citizen reported having a 45-minute long conversation where Harry described individual snowflakes he had seen last winter. In 1989, residents woke up to find sheep on their roofs. It is still unknown who executed this. In 1995, a child named Johnny Wilson brought a grand piano to a central location, and smashed the keys while screaming incoherently whenever someone was nearby. In 2004, one unknown resident covered the entire area of Barriertown with chairs. It took 5 days for all of them to be collected. The exact same chairs were used again in 2005, prompting people to begin destroying them. The chair parts were scattered around in 2006.

You know what, time travelling brain worm lore

- Their motivations are unknown, but they travel back in time, change a person's thoughts (not just any random thought, they have some sort of criteria), and go back to wherever they came from.
- They're way too fast to observe, the only trace they leave when they've done their job is the changed mind.
- You can feel the changes if they happen to you, but due to a combination of the worms' careful work and the nature of the brain, most of the time you'll usually forget within 5 seconds, no matter how aware you become of their existence.
- The most noticeable form of these changes is forgetting, but they also subtly shift the course of your train of thought in different directions by adding small deviations to thoughts, or possibly new thoughts altogether. Sometimes making you forget is also too aggressive, so instead they warp the thought into something more nonsensical to get your mind to force it out itself.
