What country do you live in? Maybe you have a more obscure dialect.
I'm from Costa Rica. We probably have the most neutral accent excluding Peru. It's a hard J, though I think Spaniards do soften it slightly, which is probably one of the reasons Google translate doesn't return that. But even then, it's closer to j than y. Listen carefully.
