why do people say stuff like "would you mind doing blank" or " do you want to do blank" and then act like they never gave you a choice even though they did

    Saying "Take out the trash now" sounds way meaner than "If it doesn't bother you, could you please take the trash out now? Thank you!" even though either way it's essentially a demand.
