most random thing ever, i love it -
-
period - solid but pretty boring compared to stuff like the comma; just does one thing, but it does do that one thing well
comma - very versatile, and though easy to misuse, not too bad if you do—there are cooler punctuation marks though
exclamation mark - classic, but prone to misinterpretation if misused
question mark - arguably second most important punctuation behind comma, even more than period. just does what it does though
interrobang - both !? and ‽ count here, very expressive (?! would go in B though because i hate it)
colon - ew
semicolon - pretty unique purpose, only find occasional use but when needed i know i need it; overrated though, why use semicolons as a status symbol when em dashes are right there (see em dash section for more info)
apostrophe - not too sure whether to count this as punctuation, it has too much power
quotation marks - kind of boring for their purpose but ah well they do what they do (fuck the “” kind though)
parentheses - i would hate english infinitely more if parentheses didn't exist, should be allowed to appear more often in formal circumstances (though em dash does well enough i guess)
hyphen - similar to apostrophe, doesn't act like punctuation should
en dash - very justly being phased out in favor of hyphens
em dash - i most often use these as socially acceptable parentheses, they should be on the keyboard—these seem more important to me than semicolons, knowing not to overuse commas is more deserving of being a status symbol
ampersand - useful in theory but i just like the word "and" better
slash/solidus - the ampersand wishes it was as useful as the slash
ellipsis - refers to both the classic (...) and comma (,,,) form, i do not have the patience to type three of the same punctuation mark just to use it, i will simply convey what i want differently
asterisk, dagger, double dagger - sometimes i need to arrange ideas with these on the occasion
bullet (including hyphen) - these totally count as punctuation. very unique purpose, but hyphen form is better
any emoji-turned-punctuation - only kind i've seen is just fancy periods as of currently, when do we get fancy semicolons or em dashes
