this is what darflen needs to solve elections
most inconveniences related to voting have been because of the voting system. for the Darlenne name debate, it was because of 1) the poll ran out of options, and 2) users felt it wasn't official enough (due to problem 1) and kept on asking for "darlene" to be an official name after the poll ended.
for the queen poll, there was 1) jcole wasn't in the options, and 2) the poll was unofficial so users posted new ones afterwards which they (the same users) instantly accepted.
these two issues are broadly the same and can be fixed by
1) implementing an "open-ended" voting system as described in the subpost (perhaps with first choice, which counts as 1 vote, and second choice, which counts as 0.5 votes - the details can be figured out afterwards)
2) hosting all "election" type polls on the official Darflen account. to ask for an election to be created, it takes a request and a few people supporting the request, and/or specific term lengths like for the mayor elections.
this solution could solve the 2 important problems for elections. my proposal on how it would look: instead of the option bars like in polls, there is a button labelled "Vote", which when clicked presents 1 (or maybe 2, again, details) option where the user can input a name in a text box, and click a button similar to the publish button of posts. the user can edit this vote later by clicking the vote button, editing the vote like editing a post, and clicking the "publish" button (which would be renamed to something else). this is only a rough idea.
this is the previously mentioned "afterwards". got any questions? suggestions? improvements? discuss in comments

my suggestions: allow unlimited options, but automatically make a link to a separate page displaying only the darflen navbar, the poll title, post contents, and all the options if there are more than 10 present; only allow the darflen account to post official polls about darflen-related things upon request of at least 5 people; vote for as many options as you want, but the order you click them in matters (each click gives 0.5^[index] votes with a reset button); if something in the comments matches an option (case-sensitive), count it as a vote, but don't allow that person to vote normally (in case you only want to vote 1 option)
i hope i helped a tiny bit -

she is winning the new poll as well
if she wins, will there be a third poll to overthrow her? if she loses, will she keep 1/2 of the crown for having won the "stay" poll yesterday? will the royal family split? so many questions... -
they're gonna keep trying until the poll becomes so meaningless that nobody cares anymore and only one single vote is cast, but it'll be against her and everybody will be like oooooh she lost -
but yeah i do like the idea of official polls with different rules (i think they can have use outside of just elections as well) -
As basically the one who started this whole thing, I can say that this is the last poll unless she doesn't fulfill her promise.
If that were the case, she will not even be a candidate for next queen. -
I can see how unofficial polls could keep on being created, but I hope that won't happen. What other use do you have for these polls? -
things like site changes and additions like and also halloween contest voting etc on top of elections
yes normal polls can work for these but like why not -
fulfill my promise?? what promise?? it's a flipping poll whoever wins wins and is queen -
oh no they're doing the poll, they didn't accept the compromise when it was suggested, in fact, they deCLINED IT and I have proof of it so like there's no going back now -
Okay so would you rather get replaced or accept the deal now that you have the chance -
Can you stop trying to force this on people? and what 'deal'? I don't even know what it is why would i agree to it?? -
I haven't agreed to any deal, there hasn't been any deals set fourth that we've collectively agreed to, whoever wins the polls wins and is queen with no deals or fulfilling any promises. nothing was put in the poll as a stipulation or condition for voting for me so you can't make any or add any now. people vote for the candidate of their choice, it says nothing about a promise I have to fulfill for me if I win and that's that. -
Paradock posted about it look it up. Way to be interesting in what goes on in your kingdom -
is it this "darfriends, i have a compromise
we cancel the election but she has to be active at least once a day (must be visible to the public)" -
Well it's not valid because not only did we continue with the first election, but you created ANOTHER election after the compromise was proposed, therefore declining the compromise. the compromise was cancel the polls, keep me as queen, and have me post everyday or I'd be out. you said you didn't want it, that you want a new ruler. so we continued with the election instead. -
it's not my choice, it's whoever voted for me's choice. they voted me as their queen, deal with it man

if you still stand by your point, maybe it could go 1 -> 0.5 -> 0.25 -> 0.1 -> 0.05 -> 0.03 -> 0.02 -> 0.01? that way, you can contribute to 8 options, or less if you click less than 8
