Fun Fact Time!
The 100,000 dollar gold certificate is the largest value and one of the rarest denominations ever produced in US history. The front face features a portrait of former president Woodrow Wilson, and its back face brightly colored in orange, includes golden rays and a bold 100,000 printed in the center. It was only created to be used exclusively for transactions between Federal Reserve Banks, were never recognized as Federal Reserve Notes (unlike other denominations), is illegal to own, was never publicly circulated, and were only printed for less than a month, between December 1934--January 1935. Only 42 specimens out of the ~42,000 originally made exist now, with most of them being destroyed after they were no longer needed for their intended purpose. Today, its value surpasses over $2.2 million.
